CONFIRMED: Man Utd striker Federico Macheda joins Doncaster on loan
MANCHESTER UNITED have loaned Federico Macheda to Doncaster Rovers on an initial one-month deal.
Macheda has dropped down the pecking order at Old Trafford, and is not in new manager David Moyes' immediate plans for this season.
The Italian hitman has spent the last few seasons away from United, completing loan spells at Sampdoria, QPR and Stuttgart.
And the 22-year-old looks set to spend the next couple of months at Doncaster, after Rovers boss Paul Dickov revealed the loan move can be extended until January.
"We’ve got him for an initial month with a view to extending it to the 93 days which is the maximum we can do," said Dickov.
"I think it’s a massive coup for this club.
"His record over the last couple of years is slightly misleading because he’s been at a couple of top clubs but not necessarily went there and played.
"I know from speaking to Sir Alex Ferguson and David Moyes that he’s a top quality player and he’s a finisher.
"He’s different to what we’ve got. Technically he’s very good, he can hold the ball up, but we want to get him in the box because that’s where he’s at his best."
Macheda started his career at United in a promising fashion by hitting a stunning winner against Aston Villa in 2009, but has failed to live up to expectations since.
