Southampton star Rickie Lambert fears for his England place next month
RICKIE LAMBERT enjoyed the experience of a lifetime in the raging atmosphere of Kiev but admits he is likely to be fighting for a place for next month’s qualifiers.
The Southampton striker has acquitted himself well since his surprise elevation to the squad last month.
But he concedes the return of Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck and Daniel Sturridge will mean a role starting from the bench.
Lambert, 31, who scored in his first two appearances, against Scotland and Moldova, said: “I understood that the chances of me playing in Kiev would have been slim if the other forwards were available.
“It has been an exciting few weeks for me. And I just hope it is going to continue.
“All I can do is give the manager another option.”
