Leighton Baines will get a pay rise at Everton to ward off Manchester United interest
EVERTON are set to offer Leighton Baines a new contract to deter Manchester United from making another bid for the left-back in January.
Everton rejected two bids from the Premier League champions for 28-year-old England defender Baines and are set to reward him with a pay rise for not forcing a move to United.
He could receive up to £75,000 a week in the new deal, almost £25,000 more than he is currently earning at Goodison Park.
Manager Roberto Martinez said: “Now the window is closed we are going to look into all of the players in the squad and see where their contracts are up to.”
Romelu Lukaku says a long conversation with Martinez and international team-mate Kevin Mirallas made it an easy decision for him to join Everton on transfer deadline day after Chelsea told him he could join another club for a second season running.
The Belgium striker said: “West Brom was one option, but Everton was a better one.”
