It's fright night for Wayne Rooney with 'horror' head injury
WAYNE ROONEY has been left looking like something out of a “horror film” as a result of the head injury that has ruled him out of England’s World Cup qualifiers with Moldova and Ukraine.
The striker needed 12 stitches in a deep gash on his forehead following an accidental training-ground collision with team-mate Phil Jones the day before Manchester United’s defeat to Liverpool on Sunday.
Rooney will be out for up to three weeks and misses the pivotal games against Moldova at Wembley on Friday and Ukraine in Kiev next Tuesday that will go a long way to shaping England’s prospects of reaching Brazil 2014.
England team-mate Theo Walcott revealed he had seen a photograph of the cut as he outlined the full extent of the injury setback.
“It’s not a nice sight to be honest,” said Walcott. “It is not going to help his looks I wouldn’t think!
“I have seen a picture and it is a very, very big gash. It’s not nice to see. It’s like something out of a horror film. Wayne is an absolutely fantastic talent and it is sad to see, but it is an opportunity for someone to come in and take their chance.”
