Everton suffer double blow with bids for James McCarthy and Fernando
EVERTON are refusing to meet Wigan's £15m asking price for James McCarthy and FC Porto have blocked the departure of Fernando to Goodison Park.
Talks between Everton and Wigan resumed today after a £10m bid was rejected yesterday, but Roberto Martinez is unwilling to meet his former club's valuation as things stand and a deal is unlikely.
Martinez had attended a work permit hearing in London this morning for Fernando as Everton tried to put a potential deal together in the event of Marouane Fellaini leaving.
But Porto insist they will keep Brazilian midfielder Fernando now.
Manchester United maintain an interest in Fellaini - who has been given permission to join up with the Belgium squad late - but their hopes of signing Everton team-mate Leighton Baines have failed.
United tabled an improved £15m bid for Baines on Sunday night, but that was again rejected by Everton chairman Bill Kenwright.
