CONFIRMED: Emiliano Viviano joins Arsenal on loan from Palermo
EMILIANO VIVIANO have confirmed the signing of Emiliano Viviano on loan from Palermo.
Reports suggest that Arsenal will pay the Italian club £1m to borrow the player for the season, but have the option to buy the player at the end of the current campaign.
The 27-year-old has a history of knee problems but they do not appear to have been an issue and his medical reportedly went off without a hitch.
Viviano was on loan at Fiorentina last term but the Viola declined to sign the player on a permanent deal, leaving him free to move to Arsenal.
The move brings an end to Arsene Wenger's search to add competition for incumbent number one Wojciech Szczesny, although it is understood that Viviano will start as a back-up to the Pole.
The Gunners were linked with a host of goalkeeping targets over the past few months including QPR's Julio Cesar, Valencia's Vicente Guaita, Real Madrid's Iker Casillas and Espanyol's Kiko Casilla.
