Chelsea's Fernando Torres urges Jose Mourinho not to abandon Wayne Rooney pursuit
CHELSEA forward Fernando Torres is urging the club not to abandon their pursuit of Wayne Rooney, as he wants to form a deadly partnership with him.
Jose Mourinho had made Rooney his primary transfer target this summer, however admitted he had other plans in place should a deal fall through.
Rooney reportedly decided against handing in a transfer request earlier this week, which would suggest that any chance of a deal had collapsed.
And Torres is hoping Chelsea can bring Rooney to the negotiating table so he can team up with him.
"Chelsea always want the best players and Rooney is one of them," Torres told German paper Bild.
"I admire him and it would be great to play alongside him."
Other reports have suggested that Chelsea will resume their interest in Rooney next summer, with Samuel Eto'o a temporary measure.
Torres' immediate concern will be to help Chelsea lift their first piece of silverware this season when they face Bayern Munich in the Super Cup.
