CONFIRMED: Arsenal re-sign Mathieu Flamini after he pens three-year deal
ARSENAL have re-signed former charge Mathieu Flamini after he penned a three-year contract.
The Frenchman who was released by AC Milan signed on a free after an agreement was struck during a final round of talks yesterday.
He becomes Arsene Wenger's second summer signing after Yaya Sanogo, however Arsenal are yet to spend a single penny in the transfer window.
It is understood that Flamini will earn £50,000-a-week and the contract includes the option of him staying for a third year.
Wenger had previously been tight-lipped on Flamini re-joining, even though he has been training with the first-team squad.
He said: "He is just here to work on his fitness and he does that very well
"I don't say there's no chance and I don't say there is a chance [of signing him]."
But he expressed his delight after the deal was confirmed by the club.
"We’re very pleased Mathieu has agreed to re-join us," Wenger told the club's official website.
"He is a player of real quality, with a fantastic work rate and great mentality.
"As we know, Mathieu is a strong midfielder, but is also is comfortable playing in defence too. He is a very good addition to our squad."
Flamini made over 100 appearances in his first spell for the Gunners before joining AC Milan on a free in 2008.
He has now become the fourth player to resign for Wenger during his time in charge of the club, with Sol Campbell, Jens Lehmann and Thierry Henry.
Meanwhile, Arsenal are thought to be awaiting whether they have been successful with their £25m bid for Angel Di Maria.
