Arsene Wenger keeping quiet on Arsenal transfer progress
ARSENAL boss Arsene Wenger has refused to be drawn on his interest in Real Madrid players Karim Benzema, Mesut Ozil and Angel Di Maria.
Wenger last night spoke about the importance of respect amongst Premier League managers and, in that spirit, declined to identify specific targets as the transfer window draws to a close.
The French tactician has been hotly tipped to make a splash in the transfer market following an opening day Premier League defeat to Aston Villa but the Gunners have righted the ship somewhat with a 3-0 victory over Fenerbahce and 3-1 win over Fulham.
The results haven't quieted speculation about Arsenal's interest in a host of players, with Benzema, Ozil and Di Maria all mentioned.
And closer to home rumours about interest in Liverpool's Luis Suarez, Manchester United's Wayne Rooney and Newcastle's Yohan Cabaye have also refused to go away.
However, when asked if he had made bids for such players the Arsenal boss played his cards close to his chest.
"I can't tell you that," he said.
"I will not give you any names because it would be unfair on the players who play at the clubs. It might create some wrong hopes."
But with less than a week remaining in the transfer window, Arsenal fans will be starting to wonder if it is their hopes of a big-name summer signing that could be misplaced.
