Newcastle forward Papiss Cisse grounded by Alan Pardew
PAPISS CISSE has been told to tone down his trademark goal celebration – or risk a run-in with his manager Alan Pardew.
Newcastle’s Senegal forward says his crowd-surfing days are over after cementing his cult-hero status among supporters following his winner against Fulham last season with a joyous leap over the advertising boards to share his joy with the Toon Army.
A repeat of those scenes at home to West Ham today would not go down well with Pardew, who is worried last season’s top scorer could earn cautions for his celebrations, which risk depleting an already threadbare forward line through costly bans.
Cisse was handed a yellow card for his antics against the Cottagers in April – Newcastle’s last home win. He said: “I’m not allowed to do that again.
“The manager had a word with me about it. I’d love to jump in with the fans again after I’ve scored this season, but it won’t be happening.”
West Ham boss Sam Allardyce, who spent eight months in charge at Newcastle, said: “I have not gone back there and been beaten yet. I want the lads to keep that record up for me if they can.”
