Atletico line up Arsenal and Spurs target Alderweireld with Demichelis City bound
ARSENAL and Spurs appear to have been joined in the race by Atletico Madrid for Toby Alderweireld.
The highly-rated Ajax defender has garnered interest from a cluster of Premier League clubs including Liverpool and Newcastle United.
Russian outfit Spartak Moscow were believed to be nearing a £6m deal for the 24-year-old however have reportedly pulled out of a move.
And according to Belgian publication nieuwsblad, Atletico are now ready to declare their interest in the player.
Atletico are in the market for a new defender with Manuel Pellerini eyeing up a move for Martin Demichelis.
Ajax have placed a £6m price tag on Alderweireld.
Atletico's interest was confirmed by Alderweireld's agent, Soren Lerby.
"It is true that Atletico Madrid are interested, but that applies to several clubs," Lerby told Dutch paper Voetbal International.
"In addition, the clubs first talk with each other that is simply the order."
Alderweireld was an ever-present for Ajax last term, as they lifted the Eredivisie title.
