Chelsea make late play for Spurs target Willian
CHELSEA have entered the race for Spurs target Willian and are believed to be in advanced talks for his signature.
Sky Sports claims the Blues have snuck in for the Brazilian star who appeared to be White Hart Lane bound although a deal is not imminent.
Spurs looked to have reached an agreement a £30m fee after the player passed a medical but a deal appeared to be shrouded in doubt with the player considering his options.
Former Anzhi boss Rene Meulensteen recently gave his seal of approval for Willian and professed that he would be a 'major trump card' for Spurs should a deal materialise.
He said: "I've worked with him for a short time but I really, really like him. He will be an asset for whoever's going to get him.
"If it's Spurs that's going to get him, they'll get an excellent player.
"He's very versatile, he can play in different positions, he's a very creative player and an excellent professional with a very good personality."
Sky Bet have re-opened the betting on Willian, with Spurs drifting out to 6/1 to sign him with Chelsea at the short odds of 1/4 to land him.
Meanwhile, Chelsea are making Jackson Martinez a back-up option should they fail to pull off a move for Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney.
