Roma want Man Utd's Javier Hernandez if they miss out on Chelsea's Demba Ba
ROMA could be set to turn to Manchester United's Javier Hernandez if they miss out on Chelsea's Demba Ba.
Reports in Italy suggest that Roma have identified the United striker as the next best option if they are unsuccessful at luring Ba away from Stamford Bridge.
The Italian club were reported to be in financial difficulties earlier this summer but are thought to have asked about Ba while in London having negotiations with Tottenham over a move for Erik Lamela.
Should Lamela make the move to Spurs, Roma could add the reported £30m fee to the money they received from selling Marquinhos to PSG and Pablo Osvaldo to Southampton in a bid to bring in reinforcements.
Roma are also reportedly optimistic of offloading Marco Borriello to West Ham or Fulham, but even having brought in Gervinho from Arsenal this summer, the departures would leave the Rome club slightly bereft up front.
However, according to Tuttosport, Roma are not optimistic about their enquiry for Ba with Jose Mourinho keen to keep hold of the Senegalese international and that could see them turn their attentions to United's Hernandez.
Hernandez has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford this summer, with Valencia rumoured to be interested in taking the player to Spain as a replacement for the Tottenham bound Roberto Soldado and Juventus also thought to hold an interest in the Mexican.
And having seemingly fallen behind Robin van Persie and Danny Welbeck in the United pecking order, Roma look set to test David Moyes' resolve to keep the 25-year-old by offering Hernandez the prospect of regular first-team football.
Hernandez's agent has previously said that his client is happy at United, but should Lamela's move to Tottenham go through and Roma miss out on Ba, then it would seem that a move to Serie A this summer remains a distinct possibility.
