Jose Mourinho to increase bid for Wayne Rooney to £28m
CHELSEA were last night preparing to launch a third bid of about £28million for Wayne Rooney after their two previous efforts were snubbed.
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has not given up the chase to add a new striker to his squad and said: “We will keep trying because, when the market is open, official bids are not forbidden. You try because nobody forbids you to try.
“We have conditions to try to improve our team with one more player. But we do have a Plan B and a Plan C.”
On whether Rooney would face Chelsea at Old Trafford on Monday, Mourinho said: “I have no idea whether he will play against us or not.”
Chelsea’s Plan B is a £5m move for Anzhi Makhachkala striker Samuel Eto’o, who played under Mourinho at Inter Milan and has been made available.
Eto’o’s agents met with Chelsea in London yesterday and a deal is close to being tied up.
