Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger denies being disrespectful to Newcastle following Cabaye bid
ARSENAL boss Arsene Wenger has angrily hit back at Newcastle manager Alan Pardew over their failed £10m bid for Yohan Cabaye.
Pardew was riled by Arsenal's bid for their prize asset and slammed it after his side's 4-0 defeat to Manchester City last night.
He said: "When you do a pre-season like we have and been very thorough and prepared for three days with a team that includes Cabaye, it is tough for his head to be turned on the eve of a game.
"I didn’t see any reason why that needed to happen. Why they couldn’t do us the respect and the honour of waiting until Tuesday evening is beyond me."
But Wenger has defended his decision to lodge a bid at a press conference on the eve of their Champions League play-off tie against Fenerbahce.
"I do not know ether it is fair or unfair," Wenger told reporters.
"I just do what is best for this football club."
Wenger also learned today that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will spend up to six weeks on the sidelines.
