Arsenal and Chelsea target Iker Casillas 'in line to replace David De Gea' at Man Utd
IKER CASILLAS could be set to replace David De Gea at Manchester United as Barcelona plot a move to bring the young Spaniard back to Spain.
Casillas has been linked with a move away from Madrid after falling behind Diego Lopez in the Real pecking order.
Casillas is reportedly considering his future and is thought to be of the view that if he leaves Real his only option is to move to the Premier League.
That has seen both Chelsea and Arsenal linked with a move for the 32-year-old but according to Spanish television show Punta Pelota Casillas is leaning more towards a move to United.
And according to El Mundo Deportivo if a deal to send Casillas to United can be agreed Barcelona will move for De Gea.
De Gea is a long-term target for Barcelona with Victor Valdes stepping down at the end of the season after refusing to sign a new contract at the Camp Nou.
Casillas fell out of favour under Jose Mourinho at Real last season but had hoped to regain his place under new boss Carlo Ancelotti.
But after once again being left of the bench for Real opening match in La Liga against Real Betis Casillas is apparently willing to cut ties with the club where he has played his entire career after making his first-team debut as a teenager.
It now remains to be seen whether Real are willing to consider letting Casillas go and whether a deal can be struck before the closure of the transfer window.
Even if Casillas was to make the move to United before September 2, it is unclear whether Barcelona would be willing to shell out to bring De Gea to Catalonia with Valdes still on their books.
