Tottenham 'in negotiations' for Roma's Erik Lamela
TOTTENHAM are closing in on the signing of Roma winger Erik Lamela with the player's representatives in discussions with Spurs.
Reports in Italy suggest that Lamela's agents are in London today to negotiate a deal that would see the Argentine wide player on his way to White Hart Lane.
According to Sky Sports Italia, Southampton's capture of Pablo Osvaldo for a fee approaching £15m has relieved some of the financial pressure on Roma and they may now be willing to slightly reduce their asking price for Lamela.
Spurs were thought to be put off by Roma's initial £30m valuation, but news that they may now be willing to accept slightly less appears to have rekindled their interest.
Lamela has been talked about as a possible replacement for Gareth Bale, whose future at Tottenham remains dubious at best.
Spurs' technical director Franco Baldini is well-placed to make a call on Lamela's talent, having overseen the 21-year-old's development during his time as a director for Roma.
Lamela made 33 appearances for Roma last season, scoring 15 goals and has become a first-team fixture at the Stadio Olimpico after arriving from River Plate for £12m in 2011.
