Cabaye bid angers Pardew as Arsenal target Pogba, Kondogbia, Richards and Flamini
ALAN PARDEW has reacted angrily after Newcastle turned down Arsenal's £12million bid for Yohan Cabaye - with Arsene Wenger linked with a host of other additions to his squad as time ticks down on the transfer window.
Arsenal's £12m bid for Magpies playmaker Cabaye was instantly rejected, but Pardew was forced to withdraw the Frenchman from his team who lost 4-0 to Manchester City last night.
And with Paris Saint-Germain ready to rival the Gunners for Cabaye, Newcastle are insisting an offer of £20m is necessary just to start negotiations.
Pardew was furious with the offer from Wenger, who has also been linked with moves for Paul Pogba, Geoffrey Kondogbia, Micah Richards and Mathieu Flamini.
"When you do a pre-season like we have and been very thorough and prepared for three days with a team that includes Cabaye, it is tough for his head to be turned on the eve of a game," said Pardew.
"I didn’t see any reason why that needed to happen. Why they couldn’t do us the respect and the honour of waiting until Tuesday is beyond me.
"It is just a very difficult situation when a player gets news like that and it wasn’t us who gave him the news. It is pretty obvious I am upset about that."
Newcastle immediately turned down the offer for Cabaye with owner Mike Ashley reportedly responding to Arsenal's transfer negotiator Dick Law by saying: "Which part of him do you want to buy?"
While PSG's presence may see Wenger lose interest in Cabaye as his transfer fee ratchets above the Emirates boss' valuation, a number of targets appear to be on the 63-year-old's radar.
Former Manchester United starlet Pogba - currently playing at Juventus - has been the subject of a £20m approach from Arsenal, while Sevilla's defensive midfielder Kondogbia attracted Wenger's attention earlier this summer and has a release clause of £17m.
Richards is also an option for defence, with the Manchester City star yet to extend his contract at the Etihad.
And Wenger could turn to ex-Gunner Flamini as a cheaper midfield choice, with the versatile 29-year-old available on a free transfer after leaving AC Milan and is training with Arsenal.
