Frank Lampard throws his weight behind Chelsea's bid for Wayne Rooney
FRANK LAMPARD has backed Chelsea's bid to bring Wayne Rooney to Stamford Bridge and has warned Manchester United that Jose Mourinho usually gets his way.
Mourinho has admitted that Rooney is his only target as the transfer window draws to a close but Manchester United are adamant the 27-year-old will not be sold.
Chelsea are keen to add to their attack and have already tabled two offers for Rooney this summer but United are unwilling to sell to one of their closest rivals.
Lampard, speaking to Sky News, said: "I think Chelsea have made their interest known. That's a decision for them and Wayne to come to."
After it was suggested to Lampard that the Special One usually gets his way, Lampard agreed, saying: "Yes he does, I think that has shown, but when you're talking about us here we've got a big squad, we've got three or four strikers already.
"We're going into the season strong, but if the manager wants to add another player we all hope he gets his man."
Despite training together with England last week, Lampard stressed that he and Rooney did not discuss the striker's future, saying that Rooney was focused on training.
Chelsea are reported to have set a deadline of August 26 to have any deal for Rooney completed.
The west London club are also eyeing up alternatives for Rooney, with growing speculation that Mourinho will bring in Anzhi forward Samuel Eto'o, with the Russian club keen to sell the highly-paid Cameroonian.
Mourinho worked with Eto'o at Inter Milan during the 2009-2010 season when the Milan giants won the treble.
