Wayne Rooney facing being benched for Manchester United's Premier League opener
MANCHESTER UNITED forward Wayne Rooney is likely to start on the bench tomorrow as Manchester United take on Swansea tomorrow evening in their first Premier League game of the season.
Rooney, who came through his 65-minute appearance for England during their friendly win over Scotland, has missed United's pre-season programme through injury.
However, the fact that Roy Hodgson started with Rooney, means he is likely to play some role in United's opener.
Rooney's last start in the Premier League came in the draw against Arsenal on April 28 and David Moyes has other options with Danny Welbeck and Robin van Persie, who scored twice in the Community Shield, at his disposal.
Rooney has played in both United's previous visits to the Liberty Stadium, which brought about a win and a draw.
Meanwhile, Moyes has not under-estimated tomorrow's opponents.
"It's a very tough away fixture," Moyes told MUTV.
"Michael Laudrup has done a really good job there and strengthened the team a lot this summer.
"I would expect Swansea to have another season as good as last year and they've already had a couple of European games as well which gives them the feeling they are a little more match-ready."
