Arsenal turn to Michu and Edin Dzeko after Luis Suarez snub
ARSENE WENGER is set to target Swansea star Michu and Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko after Luiz Suarez appeared to perform a U-turn over his desire to join Arsenal.
Quotes in Uruguayan newspaper El Observador claim that Suarez will turn his back on Arsenal this summer because of the backing from Liverpool fans throughout his transfer saga.
"For now, due to all of the people's affection (for me), I will be staying," Suarez is quoted as saying.
Arsenal have seen two bids for the 26-year-old rejected, but were hopeful that a third offer could have convinced Liverpool to sell.
Wenger and his backroom staff were putting contingency plans in place for a new forward, before this latest revelation from Suarez.
The Gunners options include Swansea's Michu and City's Dzeko, with scouts having tracked both players last season.
Arsenal could find it difficult to convince the Swans to part with Michu, who struck 22 goals - 18 in the Premier League - last season.
Dzeko is wanted at the Etihad Stadium by new boss Manuel Pellegrini, despite reports earlier in the summer suggesting he could be set to move on.
However, City have added Alvaro Negredo and Stevan Jovetic to their forward line since, which also includes Sergio Aguero.
Arsenal were interested in Jovetic before he joined City, while Wenger has also missed out Gonzalo Higuain who has moved to Napoli.
