QPR set to sign Scott Parker as Harry Redknapp eyes up Jermain Defoe
QPR boss Harry Redknapp will complete the signing of Tottenham midfielder Scott Parker today – but is launching an ambitious bid to grab striker Jermain Defoe as well in a bold £7million double swoop.
Former England international Parker, 32, had a medical at Loftus Road yesterday and is set to sign a two–year deal and make his Rangers debut against Ipswich on Saturday.
But Redknapp, who has now brought in six new players as he rebuilds his team to try to earn an instant return to the Premier League after relegation last year, is also lining up a move for Defoe.
Andre Villas-Boas wants to hold onto Defoe however, and could be set to deny the man he replaced at White Hart Lane over his pursuit of the 30-year-old.
"Defoe is a hero for Tottenham and has been doing well," said Villas-Boas. "He faces competition which he has always faced during his career."
Defoe has also been linked with West Brom as well as QPR this summer, but may not be keen to leave Spurs to drop down into the Championship.
Tottenham have brought in Spain striker Roberto Soldado for £26m from Valencia, and are looking to offload Emmanuel Adebayor.
