Manchester United to rival Real Madrid for Spurs star Gareth Bale
MANCHESTER UNITED are preparing to enter the race for Real Madrid target Gareth Bale by offering Tottenham Javier Hernandez in a player-plus-cash deal for the Welshman.
Real Madrid are expected to make a world record bid for Bale this summer, as president Florentino Perez looks to land another star name at the Bernabeu.
However, according to one national newspaper, United are set to move in on Real's territory with the offer of a swap deal involving striker Javier Hernandez.
Spurs are thought to value Bale at around £110m, although the appeal of Hernandez could bring down that price considerably.
Such a deal would be complicated to broker, especially so with White Hart Lane chairman Daniel Levy reportedly refusing to consider a sale to rival clubs.
Although that stance may have changed given Real are struggling to finance a package that could lure the North-London outfit into selling.
And with Old Trafford boss David Moyes increasingly anxious to secure a marquee signing this summer, a move for Bale could come to fruition.
Moyes insists he is happy with his current crop at United, but the squad appears short in midfield and attack with the future of Wayne Rooney under intense speculation.
"We're moving forward [to making signings]," he said. "Every day you get closer – and so does the [transfer] deadline – but if we have to I am happy to go with what we have. We have a lot of good, young English players."
