Kelvin Wilson happy to swap Celtic for Nottingham Forest
FORGET brushes with Barcelona, Kelvin Wilson is happy to swap them for yomps to Yeovil. For the Nou Camp, read the New Den.
Nottingham Forest’s £2.5 million arrival from Celtic has gone from the Champions League to the Championship, but says he has not taken a step down on his return to the City Ground.
The defender claimed two SPL titles and a Scottish Cup during his two years at Celtic, where he was part of the side to put Barca to the sword.
After helping maintain Forest’s 100 per cent start by sealing back-to-back clean sheets, with Darius Henderson scoring in their 1-0 win over Blackburn, Wilson has no regrets at forsaking the European glory nights.
He said: “People talk about Barcelona, this game and that game, but I’m loving being back at Forest. At Celtic we dominated every game. Here it’s more even and you have top-quality players and top-quality teams and every game is going to be a battle.”
Middlesbrough boss Tony Mowbray is crossing his fingers that Jonathan Woodgate can stay fit. Woodgate was outstanding as Lukas Jutkiewicz headed the winner for Boro’s first away win of 2013 as they beat Charlton 1-0. Mowbray said: “Woodgate is better than the league he’s playing in – if he stays fit . If the likes of him aren’t playing at the end of last season and you have to play a kid out of position, you are going to lose matches.”
Charlton have yet to pick up a point and boss Chris Powell said: “We need a touch more physicality and class.”
Jay Spearing believes he has joined a Premier League club in waiting following his second debut for Bolton in their 1-1 draw with Reading.
He was on loan at the Reebok last season and went permanently from Liverpool last week. “I don’t see it as a massive step back,” he said. “The lads are all Premier League standard.”
