Man United's Wayne Rooney breaks silence insisting he wants to play in competitive fixture
MANCHESTER UNITED forward Wayne Rooney has broken his silence saying that he is ready to play in a competitive fixture for England.
The 27-year-old hasn't been able to play for United during pre-season after picking up a hamstring tear and then a shoulder injury before the team were due to play in a friendly in Sweden.
David Moyes cancelled his press conference today as he didn't wish to be drawn into comment over his unsettled star.
But Rooney, who appears to be edging ever closer to a move to Chelsea, took to Facebook to say he is looking forward to playing for England after being selected for the friendly against Scotland.
He wrote: "Can't wait to join up with the England squad and hopefully play in a competitive match, they always are against Scotland.
"Big thanks to Roy Hodgson for selecting me and showing his faith and support, appreciate it."
United face Wigan in the Community Shield on Sunday.
