Everton set to go head-to-head with Bordeaux for Wigan's Jean Beausejour
EVERTON are set to compete with Bordeaux for the signing of Wigan winger Jean Beausejour.
Reports in France suggest that Beausejour is in demand and that Bordeaux are now preparing to go head-to-head with Everton to sign the Chilean international.
According to France Football, Bordeaux have been approached about the 29-year-old's situation and are now contemplating a bid.
Beausejour moved to England with Birmingham from Mexico's Club America in 2010 following an impressive World Cup in South Africa.
He initially struggled to adapt to life in the Premier League and couldn't prevent Birmingham from being relegated in 2011.
But after spending half a season in the Championship, during which time he featured in Birmingham's Europa League campaign, Beausejour moved to Wigan in January last year.
Beausejour became an established part of Wigan's side in the second half of the season, playing predominantly as a left wing-back under Roberto Martinez.
And it now seems that with speculation about Leighton Baines future at Everton, Martinez could move for Beausejour as something of an insurance policy.
It appears however that Martinez will face a battle to bring the player to Goodison Park, with Bordeaux seemingly intrigued at the prospect of taking Beausejour to France.
