Javier Mascherano mulls over Barcelona exit as Liverpool lie in wait
BARCELONA star Javier Mascherano is pondering whether or not to leave the Camp Nou if he is deemed surplus to requirements by Gerardo Martino.
Mascherano has been played out of position at centre back instead of his preferred position of centre midfield.
The 29-year-old Argentine who joined Barca from Liverpool in 2010 for £18.5m admits he is open to leaving should an offer be forthcoming.
"You never know," Mascherano told Spanish paper El Pais.
"In football, you have to be prepared for anything. There were calls from somewhere else, but no offers.
"There are always doubts. You are at Barcelona and you have to fight for your place.
"The question is whether you now fight in the same circumstances, as I have have always had to win my starting place throughout my career. It's as it should be.
"If Barca tell me they don't need me, I will be off within a minute."
Meanwhile, Barca have been courting Liverpool's Daniel Agger, who hasn't been agitating for a move away from Anfield.
