CONFIRMED: Spurs smash club record to sign Valencia's Roberto Soldado
SPURS have smashed their club transfer record by finalising a deal for Valencia hit man Roberto Soldado.
The player passed a medical this morning and has penned a four-year deal.
Soldado becomes Spurs' third summer signing after landing Paulinho and Nacer Chadli.
The Spaniard, who has won 11 caps for Spain, eclipsed Spurs' previous transfer record after they outlaid £17m for Paulinho.
A statement on Spurs' official website read: "We are delighted to confirm the signing of Roberto Soldado from Valencia after the player successfully completed his medical.
"The Spain international striker is expected to be available for the first time when we face Espanyol in our final pre-season friendly at White Hart Lane on Saturday, 10 August, kick-off 1730 BST."
Spurs have been in the market for a striker, as they seek to launch a serious assault on a top-four finish next season.
Soldado, who has expressed a strong desire to see Gareth Bale stay next season, left his old club with a parting shot.
"I am leaving Valencia because I don't trust or believe in this project."
"I think the deal is good for both clubs. I would tell to say sorry to the fans for failing to complete my contract.
"I would have liked to have ended my playing days here but I was confronted with a hurdle which made me think again. I wish Valencia all the very best."
Spurs were thrashed 5-2 in a pre-season friendly by Monaco at the weekend.
