Mikel Arteta calls for new signings at Arsenal
ARSENAL midfielder Mikel Arteta has urged Arsene Wenger to splash the cash to bring new additions to the Emirates this summer.
So far Arsenal's only business in the transfer market has been securing the services of 20-year-old forward Yaya Sanogo from Auxerre on a free transfer.
And while the young Frenchman impressed during the Gunners' 2-1 Emirates Cup defeat to Galatasaray yesterday, former Chelsea tormentor Didier Drogba's goalscoring return highlighted the need for more firepower.
Vice-captain Arteta is confident that the club can land new signings in the last month of the transfer window to help fire them to success this season.
"If the club can target players who will improve the team they are going to be very welcome because that is what we want - a better team, better players to compete and win trophies," said Arteta.
"The club is working on that. It is in their hands and I am sure they are going to do it."
Arsenal earned just a point at the Emirates Cup this weekend, with Saturday's 2-2 draw followed by a loss to the Turkish club on Sunday.
Drogba's double in North London would have left the home fans exasperated, as he regularly struck against Wenger's side whilst at Chelsea.
