Arsene Wenger thinks Real's Gareth Bale bid would make laughing stock of fair play rules
ARSENAL boss Arsene Wenger has bemoaned Real Madrid's pursuit of Gareth Bale and believes that should they pay up £105m for him, it would make a laughing stock of the Financial Fair Play rule.
Real Madrid have already submitted an £85m bid with reports in Spain suggesting that they Bale could go for a staggering £105m.
Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has been defiant on the Bale matter, saying the Welshman is not for sale.
And with UEFA's new rules aiming to ensure football clubs balance the books, Wenger thinks Real would be making a joke of the new regulations.
"It makes a joke of it. It's quite amazing that in the year where the Financial Fair Play comes in, the football world has gone completely crazy.
"You wonder what kind of impact and effect it has on the football world. It looks like it has made everybody worse than before."
Though their is a bitter rivalry between Spurs and Arsenal, Wenger maintains he would like to see Bale stay in the Premier League.
"It is never good to lose a big player," Wenger added.
"He is a British player and I believe it is important that the Premier League keeps the best players."
Bale did not travel with the Spurs squad today for their pre-season friendly against Monaco.
