Newcastle 'reach agreement' for £8.7m striker Bafetimbi Gomis
NEWCASTLE UNITED have reached an agreement to sign striker Bafetimbi Gomis for a total of £8.7million from French side Lyon.
Newcastle are yet to make a senior signing this summer, with director of football Joe Kinnear coming under increasing pressure to bring in new faces in his new role.
But the ever increasing French contingent on Tyneside looks set to swell further, as Lyon confirm hitman Gomis is on his way to the North-East outfit.
Newcastle will pay up to £8.7m (€10m) for the 27-year-old, who scored 16 league goals in France's Ligue 1 last season.
"We agreed on Newcastle's offer for a eight million euros transfer plus two million in bonuses," Lyon president president Jean-Michel Aulas was quoted as saying in French paper Le Journal du Dimanche.
"The club has come to accept the player's salary claims. The deal is now subject to an agreement over the agents fees.
"I understand there's a problem over the amount and the payment of the fees. Hopefully, it will be settled within the next 24 or 48 hours."
