Frank Lampard in fitness fight for England's derby with Scotland
FRANK LAMPARD is facing a race against time to be fit for England’s clash with Scotland on August 14.
Lampard, 35, missed all three matches in Chelsea’s Far East tour with an Achilles problem, and manager Jose Mourinho fears he can play only a limited role in the US leg of their trip which began in Indianapolis this morning.
Mourinho will not risk Lampard and England coach Roy Hodgson may have to rethink his plans for the friendly against Gordon Strachan’s side at Wembley. The fact Chelsea will have racked up a staggering 24,622 air miles by the time they return to London after a further four games has not helped Lampard.
“Frank is recovering but of course we don’t want to take risks,” said Mourinho. “Hopefully he plays on the tour, I won’t say the second match but maybe the third or fourth.”
Games in New York, Miami and Washington DC follow in the next 11 days.
