Roberto Soldado urges Real Madrid target Gareth Bale to stay at Tottenham
TOTTENHAM yesterday agreed a deal to sign Valencia’s Roberto Soldado – subject to a medical – and the striker has urged Gareth Bale to stay at White Hart Lane so the pair can form a partnership next season.
Soldado completed his £26million switch to become Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas' third signing of the summer, amid intense speculation that Gareth Bale could head in the other direction to join Real Madrid.
Tottenham fly out to Monaco today for a glamorous pre-season friendly against the Principality outfit, and whether Bale boards the plane could be a telling factor in where his future lies.
However, speaking at Valencia airport before a flight to London for his medical, Soldado was quoted by Spanish newspaper AS as saying: "Bale is a great footballer and you can see the effort Tottenham are making to prevent him from leaving.
"Of course I want him to stay."
Soldado left with a parting shot at his former club, adding: "I am leaving Valencia because I don't trust or believe in this project."
"I think the deal is good for both clubs. I would tell to say sorry to the fans for failing to complete my contract. I would have liked to have ended my playing days here but I was confronted with a hurdle which made me think again. I wish Valencia all the very best."
