Steven Gerrard: Luis Suarez should snub Arsenal to fire Liverpool into top four
LIVERPOOL captain Steven Gerrard hopes Luis Suarez will stay at the club and sample Champions League football.
Suarez has not been "moping around" at Liverpool despite frustrations about being locked into his Anfield contract.
And Gerrard said Suarez should wait for Real Madrid or Barcelona before contemplating leaving.
Gerrard said: "If he was to stay around for 12 months and we achieved a top-four finish, there is no better place in the world to play Champions League football than in front of an Anfield crowd.
"If he was to go abroad to a Madrid or Barcelona I would totally understand it.
"He's a South American. He's good enough to play in either of those teams.
"From a family point of view, it's where they all want to be. Javier Mascherano, Xabi Alonso, some of the top players I've played with - their dream was to play for Real or Barcelona.
"If I was him I would wait for one of those two clubs because I think he's good enough to play for them."
The Uruguay striker's representatives had thought a clause in the player's deal would allow him to leave Liverpool if the club received a bid of over £40m. Arsenal triggered the clause but legal experts say there is nothing which states Liverpool are obligated to sell, which means they will hold out for in excess of £50m.
Anfield boss Brendan Rogers said: "He understands the club's view. He hasn't been moping about."
