Roy Hodgson doubles up for England
ROY HODGSON will manage the Under-21s and senior England sides on consecutive nights against Scotland this month.
Hodgson offered to take the Under-21s job on after the Football Association officially advertised the role of succeeding Stuart Pearce as coach.
The Young Lions play Scotland at Sheffield United’s Bramall Lane on Tuesday, August 13, the night before the senior teams clash for the first time since 1999 in a friendly at Wembley.
“There is an opportunity while the recruitment process goes on for me to work with this squad for this fixture, and it is something I wanted to do,” said Hodgson.
“Following the tournament in the summer, a number of players are now too old for the age group so we will look at a new batch and I’m keen to work closely on the training field with them for the few days before the game at Bramall Lane.
“In a World Cup year it makes absolute sense while there is the chance to do it.”
Both England teams will be based at St George’s Park ahead of the get-together and Hodgson and assistant Ray Lewington will lead the coaching sessions.
