Barcelona star Xavi mystified by price tag placed on Spurs' Gareth Bale
BARCELONA star Xavi has cast doubt over whether Spurs superstar Gareth Bale is worth £85m.
The winger has been Madrid's object of desire throughout the summer and they tried to test Spurs' resolve yesterday by lodging a world record £85m bid.
Spurs have been quite tight-lipped about the bid and Daniel Levy has remained defiant, insisting Bale is not for sale.
Bale returned to training today after missing the Asia trophy in Hong Kong through injury.
But the Spanish pass master admits he hasn't really seen Bale play so isn't sure whether he's worth the hype.
"I don't know what Bale is worth. Honestly, I haven't seen him play a full match," Xavi said.
Meanwhile, Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp believes the offer makes sense for both clubs.
Speaking as a guest on a Sky Sports programme previewing the new season, Redknapp said: "Real Madrid are the biggest club in the world how can he turn it down?
"I also believe Tottenham are a selling club, their history would suggest that. You go back to Michael Carrick, Modric Berbatov they do tend to sell.
"They always sell at the right price and I think there will be a conversation between Daniel Levy and Joe Lewis and I can only see one outcome - and that is he will be a Real Madrid player."
Bale smashed 26 goals last season for Spurs.
