John W. Henry laughs at Arsenal bid for Liverpool star Luis Suarez
ARSENAL'S battle to sign Liverpool striker Luis Suarez turned ugly after Reds owner John W. Henry questioned if Emirates chiefs were smoking drugs after rejecting their £40,000,001 offer.
Henry this morning tweeted: "What do you think they're smoking over there at Emirates?" after Arsenal increased their offer to test a clause in Suarez's contract.
Liverpool immediately rejected the latest offer from the Gunners, with Henry's comments suggesting Arsenal are deluded about the price-tag of Suarez.
Anfield officials are angry with attempts from the North-London club to unsettle the Uruguayan, who is thought to be open to a move to the Emirates.
Arsenal have now seen two bids for Suarez rebuffed, the first an offer worth £35m including add-ons with the second increased by £5m and £1 to eclipse the £40m clause in his Liverpool contract.
Arsene Wenger could have to pay as much as £55m to land the 26-year-old, after Brendan Rodgers claimed the striker was worth at least as much as international team-mate Edinson Cavani (who joined PSG from Napoli).
Rodgers and managing director Ian Ayre plan to hold talks with Suarez after a friendly against Melbourne Victory today, as they attempt to persuade the hitman to remain at the club.
But Suarez will not be allowed to leave the tour early, with another friendly scheduled in Bangkok later this week.
