Manchester United to move for Antonio Candreva after Thiago snub
DAVID MOYES is set to turn his attentions to Lazio and Italy star Antonio Candreva if United miss out on Barcelona youngster Thiago Alcantara.
Moyes is bracing himself for disappointment after Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola revealed he will battle the Scot in the chase for playmaker Thiago.
I know him very well," said Guardiola. "He is a super, super player. It is either Thiago or nothing."
If Thiago does snub Manchester United this summer, Moyes will firm up interest in Candreva - who caught the eye while on international duty for Italy at the Confederations Cup.
Napoli are set to rival United for Candreva, 26, while City and Spurs have also been linked with the attacking midfielder.
Moyes could also be tempted to persuade former Tottenham favourite Luka Modric to leave Real Madrid, but the Croatian may wish to stay at the club following Carlo Ancelotti's arrival.
United's chances of signing Modric are less likely than bringing in Candreva, who has 11 caps for the Italian national side.
