Mark Schwarzer seals Chelsea move from Fulham
CHELSEA have swooped to snap up free agent Mark Schwarzer after he was released by neighbours Fulham.
The 40-year-old Australian has signed a one-year deal with Jose Mourinho’s side, who had been keen to prise John Ruddy from Norwich but balked at their £6million valuation.
Schwarzer, who is hoping to play in next year’s World Cup, for which Australia have already qualified, had been looking to find a club and is happy to take his place behind first-choice keeper Petr Cech.
“It’s a phenomenal club, one of the biggest in the world, and it’s an honour to sign for Chelsea,” said Schwarzer.
“I didn’t take much convincing to come here.”
Schwarzer left Fulham, who he joined on a free transfer in 2008, on July 1 after turning down a new contract.
