Arsenal set to be disappointed in pursuit of Asier Illarramendi
ARSENAL look set to lose out on Real Sociedad midfielder Asier Illarramendi this summer.
The Gunners have been tracking the Spaniard for a while now, as they are on the lookout for a holding midfielder.
Illarramendi has been deemed the type of player that could provide the Gunners with the robustness they crave, as Abou Diaby is currently sidelined through injury.
However, it seems they could be gazumped by Real Madrid for his signature.
Spanish paper Marca has it that negotiations are at an advanced stage, with both clubs trying to thrashing out a £25m transfer fee.
They also note that should a fee be agreed, then the full amount would have to be paid up front.
Real Madrid have already nabbed Isco this summer, and are bracing themselves for Xabi Alonso's departure, as he has been heavily linked with a move away from the Bernebeu.
Illarramendi was part of the Spain U21's successful European Championships campaign last month.
