Gareth Bale vow to stay at Tottenham Hotspur tempted Paulinho
SPURS are expected to complete the £17million signing of Brazilian Paulinho this week – thanks to Gareth Bale.
The midfield ace, 21, revealed that the promise of a role alongside Bale persuaded him to move to White Hart Lane despite interest from Real Madrid and Inter Milan.
He said Spurs had assured him that Bale won’t be transferred this summer – and that clinched the deal.
Paulinho is expected to say his farewells to Brazil and his club Corinthians tonight in the Confederations Cup Final against Spain.
“To play in England for a great team like Tottenham is a dream,” he said.
“They are ambitious.
“Bale is their best player, but they have made it clear to me that he is not going anywhere.”
Spurs’ move for Paulinho is also likely to signal a couple of departures from White Hart Lane.
Sunderland want to make Tom Huddlestone manager Paolo Di Canio’s seventh signing this summer in a £5m deal, while former manager Harry Redknapp is also hoping to persuade Scott Parker to drop into the Championship with QPR.
