Chelsea make Robert Lewandowski contingency choice if they fail to prise Edinson Cavani
CHELSEA are making contingency plans in the event they can't land Napoli striker Edinson Cavani.
The 26-year-old hit man is one of the most sought-after forwards in Europe and has garnered interest from a number of leading Premier League clubs.
However, with Manchester City unwilling to meet his hefty £53m release clause, Chelsea appear to head the queue for his signature.
But they are keeping Robert Lewandwoski in mind as a back-up option should they struggle to close out a deal for the Uruguayan.
Reports on the continent suggest Cavani is more inclined to join Real Madrid, and Blues boss Jose Mourinho has already signalled his intentions for Lewandowski.
Lewandowski, whose contract expires next summer, is thought to be Bayern Munich bound, although Borussia Dortmund are reluctant selling their prized asset to their bitter adversaries.
The Pole, who saw his stock rise after his four-goal salvo in the Champions League last season, plundered home 34 goals in all competitions.
