£25m Arsenal and Chelsea target Wayne Rooney wants to leave Manchester United
MANCHESTER United striker Wayne Rooney does want to leave Old Trafford this summer - and Arsenal are prepared to start a bidding war for his services by lodging a £25million offer.
Rooney still wants to move on from Manchester United this summer, after asking former boss Sir Alex Ferguson for a transfer at the end of last season.
His old Everton manager David Moyes' appointment as Ferguson's successor looked set to change the 27-year-old's mind over a summer exit, but he has decided to press ahead and leave the Red Devils.
According to the Manchester Evening News, Arsenal could spark a bidding war for the £25m-rated England star, with Chelsea and Manchester City also in the running.
Moyes and United do not want to sell Rooney to a Premier League rival, and hope that Barcelona and Bayern Munich join the race for his signature should they accept his departure.
Real Madrid have also been mooted as potential suitors, although the strongest interest is from Arsene Wenger and Jose Mourinho.
"Rooney could be an interesting player for everybody in the world," Wenger said recently. "Who would turn him down?"
And Mourinho offered his praise for the Merseyside-born star, saying: "Rooney is at a fantastic age. He has maturity, big experience, and he’s still young.
"I like him as a boy. I wish him well and hope he is happy."
