CONFIRMED: Liverpool seal transfer of goalkeeper Simon Mignolet from Sunderland
LIVERPOOL have completed the transfer of highly rated goalkeeper Simon Mignolet from Sunderland this evening.
The 25-year-old has signed a long-term contract with Liverpool after completing a medical at Anfield. The fee for the transfer is believed to be in the region of £9 million.
The Belgian shot stopper has impressed at the Stadium of Light since his move from Sint-Truiden in 2010.
He joins defender Kolo Toure, midfielder Luis Alberto and striker Iago Aspas who have been signed by Reds manager Brendan Rodgers during the summer transfer window.
Speaking to the club's official website, Rodgers said: "I am delighted that we have been able to sign one of the top goalkeepers in the Barclays Premier League.
"Simon will join a club that will give him an opportunity to demonstrate and improve his huge talent."
The signing of Mignolet will raise question marks over the future of Pepe Reina, who has been linked with moves to Barcelona and Arsenal.
Spanish keeper Reina has also been rumoured to be a target of former boss Rafa Benitez at his new club Napoli.
