Tony Adams casts doubt over Manchester United's Wayne Rooney as transfer target
ARSENAL hero Tony Adams has had his say on Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney, and has warned the club against making a move.
Rooney, who is widely reported to have handed in a second transfer request within the space of three years at the end of last season, has been widely credited with a shock move to Arsenal.
Moreover, Arsenal's second-largest shareholder Alisher Usmanov, recently expressed his admiration for the striker, saying: "He is a great player and joining the club would be great for Rooney and Arsenal too."
However, Adams firmly believes Rooney would struggle to adapt to the demands of the north London outfit.
"I'm not sure Wayne Rooney could handle London, to be completely honest," Adams told talkSPORT.
"That would be a massive risk, for me.
"I don't think it's a question of finances. I think it's his temperament and mentality. London is a different animal.
"I think it takes a different type of player [to handle it]. think Wayne is unquestionably a super player and I'd love to see him at the Arsenal.
"Technically he's a fantastic player but I'm not sure about him mentally, off the pitch and his professionalism."
Meanwhile, the Gunners are closing in on a £22m deal for Gonzalo Higuain.
