Hamburg look to hand Arsenal flop John Djourou a lifeline
ARSENAL outcast Johan Djourou is set to be offered another chance in the Bundesliga by Hamburg - after impressing with Hannover on-loan last season.
Unwanted Gunners defender Djourou played away from the Emirates for the second time in his Arsenal career last campaign, with Hanover in Germany.
The 26-year-old made 16 Bundesliga appearances last term, and although Hannover looked unlikely to return to sign the Swiss international this summer, Hamburg are set to step in and approach Arsenal for his services.
"We would loan him, but we would also buy him, depending on what Arsenal prefer," said Hamburg's director of sport Oliver Kreuzer.
Kreuzer is confident the appeal of Hamburg will trump Hannover and any other reported interest in Djourou - such as Real Betis in Spain.
"Hannover played well in Europe last season, but Hamburg is Hamburg," he told German newspaper Bild.
"HSV is HSV, and we are just a better club."
