Arsenal shareholder Alisher Usmanov wants Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney
ARSENAL’s second-largest shareholder Alisher Usmanov has called on Arsene Wenger to buy Wayne Rooney.
Rooney, 27, is unsettled at Manchester United and Arsenal manager Wenger has recently expressed his admiration for the England striker.
Russian billionaire Usmanov – who holds almost 30 per cent of Arsenal’s shares – thinks signing Rooney would be perfect for both player and club.
He said: “He is a great player and joining the club would be great for Rooney and Arsenal too.”
Usmanov does not sit on the board but said he would welcome Wenger spending his £70million transfer kitty.
“Spending the money is good news if it happens,” he said.
Arsenal are close to opening that war chest with a record-breaking £22m deal to land Gonzalo Higuain from Real Madrid.
