New Wigan manager Owen Coyle hoping to be judged on here and now
WIGAN manager Owen Coyle says he can't wait to get stuck into his new role after he was formally unveiled at a press conference this afternoon.
The ex-Bolton and Burnley coach has been out of work since October last year, and admitted that he had seven or eight opportunities to get back into football management, but had been waiting for the 'right club'.
Coyle, who signed a 12-month rolling contract, has been given a timeframe by Whelan to get Wigan back into the Premier League.
Speaking at the press conference, Coyle said: "I feel that this is the right job and I'm really looking forward to start working at this fantastic club.
"The Chairman has backed manager's in the past to bring players and we need to add to an already talented squad.
"I hope to be judged on the job I do here rather than my past and I'm looking forward to success here."
Coyle will find out on Wednesday who Wigan's opening game of the Championship season is against, as that is when the full programme of fixtures for the 2013/14 season are released.
