Owen Coyle gets incentive for Wigan promotion
OWEN COYLE will earn a £1million bonus if he manages to lead Wigan back to the Premier League next season. He has signed a one-year rolling contract to replace Roberto Martinez as manager of the FA Cup holders following the Spaniard’s departure to take charge at Everton.
Coyle, who led Burnley to promotion from the Championship in 2009, will earn about £1m a year, with his wages doubled if he secures promotion.Chairman Dave Whelan said: “I know we are in the Europa League next season but the total priority is to get back in the Premier League in the next two years.
“We will have something like 56 matches next season and we are short about eight to 10 players so Owen has a lot of work and has to start immediately.” Coyle said: “We have to take them back as quickly as possible – we are under no illusions.”
