CONFIRMED: David Moyes completes first Manchester United transfer with Varela signing
DAVID MOYES has made his first signing as Manchester United boss after his side completed the transfer of Uruguayan right-back Guillermo Varela today.
Manchester United have signed the 20-year-old on a five year contract after agreeing a deal with the defender's former club Penarol last week.
Varela will represent his country later this month at the Under-20 World Cup in Turkey before joining up with his new team mates.
Varela represents the first signing of the Moyes era at Old Trafford after he took over from Sir Alex Ferguson who retired at the end of last season.
Speaking to ManUtd.com, Varela said: "I'm very pleased to be a part of this club, one of the best teams in the world.
"As everyone in the world knows, this is a huge club that has won everything and I really hope that continues."
Varela joins the Red Devils after impressing during a two week trial at their training grounds in Carrington during May.
He will provide competition for first choice Brazilian right back Rafael who enjoyed his best season at Manchester United in 2012/13.
